Doorway & Delivery Measurements
The best sofa in the world is useless if it can’t get through your front door. Take these measurements before you order anything.
Modular sofas have a real advantage here: they arrive and move in separate pieces, so tight doorways and turns are far less likely to defeat them than a single fixed-frame sectional. Even so, it pays to measure. Doorways
Measure the narrowest point of every doorway on the route, including the door itself when it is open. This is the single most common reason a sofa gets stuck.
Hallways & turns
A straight hallway is rarely the problem, the 90-degree turn into it usually is. Note the width at each turn between the entrance and the room.
Stairs & elevators
For apartments, check the elevator car depth and door height, or the stairwell landing clearance. Modular pieces help because they travel in sections.
The room itself
Measure the wall the sofa will sit against and the open floor in front of it, so the finished layout leaves comfortable walking room.
